The time is here for me to finally announce OpenCorporate’s Community plan for the upcoming year. We have kept a tight lid on it so far because we have been trialling different event formats since I joined OpenCorporates a few months ago. We’ve grown to 85 million companies in 100 jurisdictions worldwide in the past 3 years thanks to all of you. You’ve helped us identify datasets to scrape, informed us when new registries become open, spoken about us at events, written about us in blogs and newspapers, and scraped datasets with us.
Earlier this year, we launched Missions, a platform that allows anybody to contribute data to OpenCorporates. And now, I wanted to tell you about the new meetup group we are starting in London. We’ll be meeting every month to work on scraping datasets and finding stories within the data. If you are a coder you can be writing bots. If you’re someone who likes finding stories in data, you could be creating a visualisation or writing a piece about it. Our next meetup is on 26th November, at Hub Kings Cross. It’s already fully booked, but we’ll be having these meetups regularly, every last Wednesday of the month. Join the meetup group to stay in the loop. You can also stay in touch by signing up for our newsletter.
If you’re not in London – worry not! We’re looking for Open Data champions to help us start these Open Data Missions meetups groups in cities around the world. If you would like to start hosting one in your city, let me know.
