Texas companies added to OpenCorporates

As previously mentioned, we’ve been working hard getting Texas company data into OpenCorporates.

We are pleased to announce that our testing is complete, and the “Lone Star” state becomes the 117th jurisdiction to be added to OpenCorporates, and 49th out of 50 US states.

Texas is the 2nd largest US state by both land area and population, and has a significant company register – over 2.6 million active and dissolved companies are listed and available for viewing on OpenCorporates.com, and of course via the API.

The data was sourced from the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts which makes the company data information freely available. All corporations registered in Texas are required to pay Franchise Tax, and the Texas Tax Code designates companies and their most corporate officers and directors as public information. By contrast, the official company register charges significant fees for access to the same public data. We believe that that company dataset we are publishing mirrors the official register.

The Company data covers:

  • Company Name
  • Company Status
  • Incorporation Date
  • Registered Address
  • Mailing Address
  • Agent Name

The Officer data covers:

  • Officer Name
  • Officer Position
  • Officer Address

Note: officer data is not available for associations, partnerships, trusts.
